Russell Slaters electronic journey started in 1969 at The University of South Florida in an early electronic music program called the Psycom Electronic Music Project. A group of early Electronic musicians tucked away in the basement of the Music Dept. building under the carefully guided wing of Professor Hilton. With only a 4 track tape machine, small audio mixer , a mix of early Buccla and Moog manual patching synths, and an plethora of weird instruments managed to chase most students out of the building.
Over the next 15 years Russell experimented with the various types of ever morphing electronical instruments, following Bob Moogs demonstrations all over Fl. and listening to John Cage, Morton Subotnick and Wendy Carlos records to mention a few.
In 1984 Russell studied Electronic Music at SUNY in Albany, NY in the continuing studies program headed up by Professor Joel Chadabe composer, author, an internationally recognized pioneer in the development of interactive music systems. With the introduction of MIDI Digital Synths, Russell started experimenting with MIDI Guitars. Playing in the experimental band in the early 90s, Outpost 5.
In 1995-1997 Russell worked with ( Dr. Caroline Roselymere - Author, Gestalt Therapist,Psychologist and Mystic) using carefully selected sounds and harmonies in an attempt to veer Dolphins away from the nets of the commercial fishing industries.
Mother Binary was created in 2007 in hopes of sharing and contributing to the endless arena of ‘SOUND‘ the Mother of all Music.
